Induction ceremony kicks off Homecoming Weekend

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton Athletics kicked off Homecoming festivities with its 30th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Saturday morning at the Events Center. Gaining membership were former University President Lois B. DeFleur and former student-athletes Amanda Casares '10, '12 (soccer), Dave Ciocchi '12 (baseball) and Jessica Phillips '13, '14 (softball).

"We celebrate your unique accomplishments as builders of a great tradition of Division I athletics at Binghamton," University President Anne D'Alleva said in her remarks to the inductees. "Our student-athletes are leaders and innovators and vital contributors to their communities. Our vision is for Binghamton Athletics to set a national standard for what collegiate athletics can be. Thank you and congratulations."

"Congratulations to our newest Hall of Famers," Director of Athletics Eugene Marshall, Jr. said. "You have set the foundation that we build our championship culture around – on the fields of competition, in the classrooms and more importantly, in the community.  You have set the standard. Congratulations."

DeFleur became the first female president at Binghamton University in 1991 and her 20-year tenure was marked by unprecedented growth in athletics facilities, support and status.

Casares was a four-year stalwart at center midfield for a women's soccer team that advanced to the conference semifinals in each of her final three seasons, including a title-game appearance in her senior campaign.

Ciocchi compiled huge numbers for a baseball program that began its rise on the national level during his tenure.

Phillips belted 44 career home runs and drove in 122 runs for a softball program that averaged 10 conference wins with her in the lineup.

The Class of 2026 brings the total number of inductees to 143.
