Mikey Squires, Trent Sibble each pick up a win against the Big Red in the final dual of the season for the Bearcats

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Binghamton wrestling team (7-4, 4-1 EIWA) wrapped up its 2025-26 dual season with a 26-9 loss at Cornell (8-6, 4-1 Ivy) Saturday at the Friedman Wrestling Center.

Mikey Squires recorded his second pin of the season when he defeated Carson Crace in the 197 lb., bout. Trent Sibble, meanwhile, closed out the dual with a 3-2 win in overtime against Cy Kruse in the heavyweight bout. Additionally, No. 19 Carter Baer limited No. 2 Simon Ruiz to two points in the 174 lb., match. While Ruiz prevailed 2-0, the two points were the fewest he scored in a match since Cornell's first dual of the season on Nov. 15 against No. 10 Alex Facundo of Oklahoma State.

Cornell won the first eight bouts in the dual to take a 26-0 lead. At 197 lbs., Squires scored early and often against Crace, holding a 10-2 lead after the first period thanks to two takedowns and back points. Eventually, Squires got the pin to put Binghamton on the board with six points.

To close out the dual, Sibble faced Kruse for the second time this season. In the last meeting between these two wrestlers at Cornell's Big Red Invitational on Nov. 23, Kruse shut out Sibble with a 15-0 technical fall. In the rematch, Sibble limited Kruse's offense while overcoming a 2-0 deficit in the third period by picking up two points via a call of locked hands and an escape. In overtime, with both wrestlers neutral, Sibble drove Kruse through the Binghamton bench, causing Kruse to crash through the chairs set up at the corner of the mat. Kruse was then called for stalling, giving Sibble the 3-2 victory.

Binghamton finishes its 2025-26 dual season with seven dual victories under first year Head Coach Ryan LeBlanc. With the Bearcats winning 9 duals in 2023-24 and 10 in 2024-25, this marks the first time that Binghamton has won at least seven duals in three consecutive seasons since the program posted at least that many victories five seasons in a row from 2014-19. During that stretch, the Bearcats won nine duals in 2014-15, 11 in 2015-16, nine in 2016-17, 12 in 2017-18 and 10 in 2018-19.
