LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Binghamton men's lacrosse team (0-3) was thwarted by Siena (2-1) 14-5 in a midweek matinee Tuesday at Hickey Field.
The Bearcats posted five different goal scorers against the Saints.
Colin DeLay,
Ryan Meyers,
Matthew Rincon,
Nolan Sharkey and
Nico Spaziani each picked up a tally for Binghamton. Spaziani's goal was the first of his collegiate career.
Connor Winters also stopped 10 shots for Binghamton, as the reigning America East Goalkeeper of the Week has recorded at least 10 saves in each of his first three starts this season.
Conor Hufnagel and Patrick Radomski both led Siena with six goals each. Vito DeBellis, meanwhile, made 11 saves in goal for the Saints.
Binghamton struggled to get on the scoreboard, as the Bearcats were shut out in the first quarter 4-0. After Patrick Linton opened the scoring for Siena at the 7:50 mark, Radomski scored the next three in the first frame to pick up a hat trick.
The Bearcats got on the board at the 9:14 mark in the second quarter after
Liam Byrne set up Meyers for his second goal in as many games. However, Binghamton would not find the back of the net for the remainder of the half. Siena would get another goal from Radomski, as well as Hufnagel's first strike of the day to go into halftime up 6-1.
In the second half, it initially appeared that Binghamton was taking back the momentum. The Bearcats scored three goals in a span of 59 seconds to cut their deficit to 6-4 at 7:17. Spaziani first netted a man-up goal, with an assist from Girolamo, at 8:16. Rincon followed that with his first goal of the season at 7:54. Finally, DeLay got a tally after he was set up for the goal by
Tyler Martini.
Hufnagel scored again at 6:41 to bring Siena's lead up to 7-4, but Sharkey ended the third quarter with a goal for the Bearcats at 2:14. Binghamton entered the fourth quarter down 7-5, looking to complete the comeback.
But Siena would shut out Binghamton in the final frame of the day. The Saints outscored the Bearcats 7-0 in the last quarter, with Hufnagel scoring four of those goals for Siena. Radomski added two more, while Linton picked up his second goal of the day, leading to Siena getting its second win of the season.
