Men’s Lacrosse taken down by NJIT 13-7

Flynn Wilson nearly ties two program records for Bearcats in loss to the Highlanders

NEWARK, N.J. – The Binghamton men's lacrosse team (2-6, 1-1 America East) fell to New Jersey Institute of Technology (4-5, 1-0 America East) 13-7 Saturday night at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

Will Feldmann scored a career-high two goals for the Bearcats. Meanwhile, Flynn Wilson set career highs in faceoff victories (18) and ground balls (11), while also scoring his first collegiate goal.

Wilson came up just short of a couple of Binghamton program records. Wilson's 18 faceoff victories are three shy of tying the record of 21 victories by one player in a game. That record is held by Wilson's two predecessors, Matthew DeSouza and Ross Chazanow. DeSouza first set the record against NJIT on April 3, 2021. The next year, Chazanow matched it with 21 victories of his own against Mount St. Mary's on March 4, 2024. Meanwhile, his 11 ground balls are also three shy of tying the mark of 14 collected by a player in one game. Dan Mazurek set the record with 14 against Vermont on April 12, 2014, and then tied his own record against UMBC on March 19, 2016.

However, that was not enough to counter NJIT, who got three goals from Dylan Sebastian and two from Will Corry, Carson Piscitiello and Wyatt Viste. Cameron Kurdyla also stopped 14 shots in goal for the Highlanders.

The first half was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Ryan Sininsky opened the scoring for NJIT 57 seconds into the game. Binghamton's response came from Tyler Martini, who used an underhand shot to get the ball around a defender and into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season to tie the game at one at 11:40 in the first. 49 seconds later, Liam Byrne set up Feldmann for his first goal of the night to put Binghamton ahead 2-1 at 10:51. The defensive battle continued until NJIT tied the game at two with a goal from Viste at 5:24. Both teams remained tied heading into the second quarter.

Looking to grab the momentum back, Wilson won the opening faceoff in the second and sprinted toward the goal with the ball. He then fired in his first goal as a Bearcat, giving his team a 3-2 lead seven seconds into the frame. That lead was short-lived, however, as the Highlanders tied the game back up with a man-up tally from Callum Zarsky at 13:30. Just like in the first, both teams traded possessions throughout the next several minutes. It wasn't until with 5:20 left in the half that Byrne put the Bearcats back ahead with his second goal of his collegiate career. NJIT would get even with Binghamton, as Piscitiello scored with 57 seconds left to tie the game up at four going into halftime.

NJIT's defense then shut out Binghamton for the entire third quarter, while Sebastian scored all three of his goals for the Highlanders in the frame. With Corry adding an extra goal, NJIT took an 8-4 lead into the fourth quarter. The Highlanders scored two consecutive goals on the man-advantage, one from Viste and another from Nirio Garcia, to extend their lead to 10-4. Feldmann ended the scoring drought for Binghamton with a goal with 12 minutes remaining in regulation. After a tally from JC Echezuria for NJIT, the Bearcats then scored two consecutive goals, courtesy of Andrew Girolamo and Gavin Jacobsen, to bring themselves to a deficit of 11-7 with 3:45 left. But the Highlanders closed out the game with goals from Piscitiello and Corry to win their first game in America East Conference play this season.

Other Notes
  • With eight saves in goal for Binghamton, Connor Winters' streak of games with at least 10 saves made is snapped at nine. The last time Winters did not make at least 10 saves in a game was against Bryant on April 19, 2025, when he stopped eight shots.
  • Luke LeSueur and Nolan Sharkey each caused a game-high two turnovers for Binghamton. Both players now have a total of eight this season.
  • The Bearcats collected a total of 30 ground balls on Saturday, their most in a game this year.
