VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton golf team is returning to the state of Maryland for its second tournament there in as many weeks, as the Bearcats are set to play in Iona's Battle at Rum Pointe from Friday through Saturday at Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links in Berlin, Md.
This is the first time Binghamton is competing in this event since 2023. This year's tournament also includes golfers from Colgate, Dartmouth, Fairfield, Fordham, Maryland Eastern Shore, La Salle, Le Moyne, Monmouth, Sacred Heart, Saint Peter's, Manhattan, Hofstra, West Chester and Rider.
Last weekend, Binghamton co-hosted the Carpetbagger Classic in Urbana, Md., with Colgate.
Brandon Conner finished tied for 17th at 77-69 = 146/2-over par, with his 69/3-under par being the lowest round he has recorded this spring. Conner now has three top 20 finishes this season to go along with his two runner-up finishes. Overall, the Bearcats finished seventh out of 14 teams at 301-293 = 594/18-over par.
For his performance, Conner was named a Prime Performer by the NEC for the third time this season on Wednesday. The Cincinnati, Ohio native was previously named a Prime Performer by the NEC for the months of September and October last fall. His first honor came after he finished second at the Blue Hen Intercollegiate on Sept. 16. Conner then followed that by receiving the honor again the next month after he finished second at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational on Oct. 6. His final score of 71-66 = 137/7-under par tied his own program record for the lowest score for 36 holes, which he previously set at the 2023 Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational. His second-round score of 66/6-under par is also tied for the program's lowest individual score for one round.
Overall, this is the sixth time that Conner has been named a Prime Performer by the NEC throughout his career. He has received the most Prime Performer awards out of any Binghamton golfer since the Bearcats joined the NEC before the start of the 2023-24 season. Additionally, Conner was also named the NEC Golfer of the Month for the month of October in 2024.
The first round of the Battle at Rum Pointe is set to begin at 10 a.m., on Friday. The final round tees off at 10 a.m., on Saturday.
Matthews Auto is the presenting sponsor of Bearcats Golf.
