Freshman posts lowest single round, 36-hole scores of career for second top three finish of the season

BERLIN, Md. – Freshman Jack Tebeau of the Binghamton golf team used a career day to finish tied for second out of 99 golfers Saturday at the Battle at Rum Pointe at Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links.

Tebeau shot a career-low 70/2-under par during the final round Saturday to finish the 36-hole event 73-70 = 143/1-under par. His final score is also the lowest he has posted at a 36-hole tournament. For his final round, Tebeau put up five birdies to move up 12 spots on the leaderboard after he finished the first day of the tournament tied for 14th.

"Jack played very good today under blustery conditions," said Binghamton Head golf Coach Bernie Herceg. "He controlled the ball well and had a great mindset."

Additionally, this marks the second time Tebeau has finished in the top three at a tournament this season. The Hamburg, N.Y., native previously tied for third at the Crusader Invitational back on Oct. 21. Tebeau is the first freshman at Binghamton to record two top-10 finishes since Justin Lane accomplished that feat during the 2017-18 season. The last freshman to have two top-five finishes for Binghamton was Kyle Wambold in 2013-14.

Overall, Binghamton finished fifth out of 16 teams at 300-295 = 595/19-over par. Sean Shen just missed out on his third top 20 finish of the season, as the senior tied for 21st at 73-76 = 149/5-over par. Alex Patel also tied for 30th at 76-74 = 150/6-over par.

"I am proud of the team to fight back and have a top five finish under these conditions," said Herceg.

Binghamton gets a week off before next competing at Villanova's Wildcat/Fazio Invite from April 6-7 at Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, N.J.
