Softball hosts UAlbany in AE weekend series

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (7-17, 5-0 AE) lost 11-1 to visiting Colgate on Wednesday. Graduate student Darien McDonough and sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey both went 2-for-3. In the process, McDonough extended her hitting streak to a team-best seven games while Carey raised her batting average to a team-high .506. 

- Carey leads the America East and is ranked No. 11 in the nation in batting. Junior catcher Elisa Allen is tops in the conference in home runs and third in RBI (20). Junior outfielder Maddy Dodig is tied for fourth in the America East in hitting (.394) and No. 26 in the nation with 0.39 doubles per game. McDonough is sixth in the America East in batting (.390) as well as fifth in the nation with 0.38 doubles per game.

- As a team, Binghamton is second in the America East in batting (.307). The Bearcats also rank first in home runs (21), doubles (49) and slugging percentage (.493).

- In the current national rankings, Binghamton is fifth as a team with 2.09 doubles per game and No. 20 with 0.52 double plays per game.

- UAlbany (14-11, 3-3 AE) swept Central Connecticut 4-0, 8-2 in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Hailey Errichiello fired a two-hit shutout in the opener, striking out 13 batters in the process. In the nightcap, the Great Danes clubbed three home runs.

- As a team, UAlbany leads the conference in all three major statistical categories. The Great Danes are batting .312, have a 3.12 ERA and are fielding .969.

- Kasay Conn leads UAlbany and ranks third in the conference with a .400 batting average. Sarah Anderson is tied with Dodig for fourth (.394).Katie Parisi, meanwhile, has driven in a conference-best 25 runs while 

- During both teams' 25-year Division I era, UAlbany holds a 52-23 lead in the series over Binghamton. Last year, however, Binghamton won all four games. The Bearcats swept a home doubleheader 12-4 and 14-2 on March 22 and swept both games on May 2 at UAlbany (4-3 and 6-5). 

- Allen currently has 37 career home runs, which ranks second all time in Binghamton program history behind only Jessica Phillips (2010-13), who hit 44 home runs during her career. Phillips was recently elected into the Binghamton Athletic Hall of Fame and will be formally inducted in the fall. 

- In the America East record book, Allen's 37 home runs rank ninth all time. There is a four-way tie for fifth place with 42 home runs. The all-time record of 46 home runs is shared by Kristen Brust of Stony Brook (2002-05) and Hayley Durham of Stony Brook (2003-06). Phillips is in sole possession of third place with her 44 home runs. 

- With a 97-49 record since moving into the Bearcats Sports Complex in 2013, Binghamton is closing in on its 100th win on its current home field. During the past 13 years, the Bearcats have won two America East championships (2015 and 2025), four regular-season conference titles (2016, 2017, 2024 and 2025) and have hosted the America East Tournament on their home field six times (2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2025).


OTHER UPCOMING MILESTONES


- Junior catcher Elisa Allen has 99 career RBI. She needs one more to become just the ninth player in program history to reach the century mark.

- Junior outfielder Maddy Dodig has 93 career hits. She needs seven more hits to become the 27th player in Binghamton program history to reach 100 for her career.

- Senior first baseman Emma Lawson has 93 RBI for her career. She needs seven more to reach the century mark. 

- With 103 career hits, Lawson would also become just the ninth player in program history to reach triple digits in both hits and RBI. She would join Jami Pier (1997-00), Deannie Plemon (2008-11), Jessica Phillips (2010-13), Lisa Cadogan (2013-16), Taylor Chaffee (2013-16), Sydney Harbaugh (2013-16), Jessica Rutherford (2015-18) and Kate Richard (2015-18).

A pair of Binghamton players have tied the school record with three doubles in a game this season. Graduate student Darien McDonough hit the mark against Colgate on March 8 and sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey did the same against Princeton on March 15.

Three Binghamton players have earned America East Player of the Week honors this season. They include senior first baseman Emma Lawson (Feb. 9), sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey (Co Player on March 10) and junior catcher Elisa Allen (March 30).

Binghamton has three newcomers in its starting lineup this season - graduate student Darien McDonough, freshman designated player Lauren Payne and freshman outfielder Megan Wolf. All of them are batting at least .300.

Junior catcher Elisa Allen drove in five runs against Niagara on March 6 - which is the highest total by a Binghamton player this season.

Binghamton has tied the school record twice this season with six doubles in a game. The Bearcats hit the mark against Colgate on March 8 and tied it against Maine on March 29.

Graduate student Darien McDonough has a team-best, seven-game hitting streak heading into the series against UAlbany. This includes a career-high four hits in the second game against Maine on March 29.

Sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey has posted a team-best 12 multiple-hit games so far this season. This includes six three-hit performances as well as a career-high four hits in the first game against Maine this past Sunday.
