Softball heading to Oklahoma for NCAA Regionals

Bearcats join host Sooners, Kansas and Michigan in Norman Regional

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton softball program - which won its second consecutive America East title on Saturday - will travel to Oklahoma for its regional round of the NCAA Tournament. In addition to the host Sooners, Michigan and Kansas are also part of the four-team Norman Regional.

Binghamton will face Oklahoma on Friday in its first game at 3:30 p.m. EST (2:30 p.m. local time). Michigan and Kansas will follow at 6 p.m. EST (5 p.m. local time).

Oklahoma is the overall No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Sooners have won eight national championships - including four in a row from 2021-24. This marks the first-ever meeting between Binghamton and Oklahoma in the sport of softball.

Michigan has made 12 appearances in the Women's College World Series (WCWS) and won the national championship in 2005. The Bearcats' lone meeting against the Wolverines came on Feb. 28, 2015 at the Arizona State Tournament. Michigan - who was then ranked third in the nation - won that game 15-0.

Kansas, meanwhile, is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2015. The Jayhawks are 35-19 so far this season and won a program-best 14 Big 12 Conference games. Binghamton and Kansas have yet to face off in softball.

"Oklahoma is the pinnacle of college softball and Oklahoma Stadium is the best in the country, so we know we are going to have a great experience," head coach Jess Bump said. "We played several top teams at the beginning of this season to prepare us for NCAAs so we feel that we are prepared and we are going to compete as hard as we can."

This marks the Bearcats' third trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament. The Bearcats traveled to the James Madison Regional in 2015 and the Oregon Regional last year. From 1995-98, Binghamton made four straight trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Binghamton advanced to this year's NCAA Tournament by virtue of its 4-2 win over UMass Lowell in the winner-take-all championship game in the America East Tournament on Saturday.
