Men’s Soccer Earns Pair of Weekly AE Awards

Admassu named Goalkeeper of the Week, Almoznino tabbed as top defender

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior goalkeeper Natan Jemaneh Admassu has been named the America East Goalkeeper of the Week and senior back Saar Almoznino has been chosen as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon by the conference office. 

Almoznino helped spearhead a Binghamton defense that recorded a pair of shutouts this past week. In two matches against Colgate and Central Connecticut, Almoznino and the Bearcats allowed just six total shots on net. Against the Blue Devils on Saturday, Almoznino also netted the game-winning goal in the 74th minute.  

Admassu, meanwhile, recorded both shutouts last week for Binghamton. Against Colgate on Wednesday, he made back-to-back saves off of high-percentage shots from close range to preserve the clean sheet. For the week, Admassu was a perfect 6-for-6 in save opportunities, and he now has three solo shutouts so far this season. Currently, Admassu has a streak of 202 minutes without surrendering a goal. 

This marks the first career weekly accolade for both Almoznino and Admassu.

In addition, this is the first time that Binghamton has landed a pair of weekly award winners since March 23, 2021. Noah Luescher was named the top Offensive Player that week and Cooper Sayles was chosen as the best rookie. The 2020 season was moved to the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Binghamton (1-2-2) hosts Le Moyne on Saturday at 6:07 p.m.
