HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate senior guard Jon Simon scored a game-high 23 points to lead Colgate (2-2) to a 78-70 win over visiting Binghamton (3-2) in a men's college basketball game Monday night from Cotterell Court. The loss snapped BU's three-game win streak.

Simon torched BU's defense for 17 second-half points, including nine straight to erase a four-point Colgate deficit midway through the second half. The Bearcats led 41-37 four minutes into the second half when Simon took control of the game. He netted a three-pointer, converted a four-point play and made a layup - all within a span of 1:27 - as Colgate forged ahead for good. Simon wound up hitting 12 points during a 19-6 run that resulted in a 56-47 lead with less than 10 minutes to play. Colgate kept BU at bay the rest of the way before settling on the final eight-point margin.

Junior guard Richard Forbes (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) scored a team-high 19 points and pulled down six rebounds. Senior forward Duane James (Miami, Fla.) collected 18 points, tying his career-best total, and six boards and junior guard Mike Gordon (Plainfield, N.J.) added 13 points, respectively. Freshman forward Lazar Trifunovic (Belgrade, Serbia) chipped in eight points and seven rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

Colgate shot 54% and earned numerous second-chance points with strong rebounding against a BU team that was playing its second game in a three-day span. The Raiders shot 54% from the field and added seven blocks to their defensive effort.

"Colgate was better than us tonight," head coach Al Walker said. "They dominated the game. We didn't defend at a high level and we need to learn from this and get better."

The Bearcats struggled out of the gate, missing 13 of the team's first 15 shots and digging an early eight-point deficit before James led a late charge. The 6-foot-6 senior forward stepped out to can a pair of three-pointers in the final six minutes - including one that rolled softly around the rim before falling in at the halftime buzzer to knot the score at 31-31. James scored all 10 of his first-half points in the final 5:47 of the stanza.

Binghamton returns home to host Rider at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
