VESTAL, N.Y. -- Freshman guard Brandon Herbert (Baltimore, Md.) led four players in double figures with a game-high 20 points and Binghamton (7-10, 3-2 AE) extended its home win streak to five with a 67-61 win over visiting Stony Brook (4-12, 1-3 AE) in a televised America East game Tuesday night from the Events Center.

Herbert became the seventh Bearcat to hit the 20-point mark this season. He hit 6-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, and helped hold off Stony Brook with 13 second-half points, including a free throw in the final 17 seconds.

Binghamton, which led by six at the break, shot 58% in the second half. After building a double-digit lead, however, BU had an uneasy final four minutes, when the Seawolves used a 14-4 run to trim a 12-point deficit to just two, 61-59, with 26 seconds left. Senior guard Mike Gordon (Plainfield, N.J.) made a pair of free throws with 25 seconds left to push the lead to four, and BU converted 6-of-8 from the line in the final 25 seconds to seal the win.

"It was a tough, scrappy game," head coach Kevin Broadus said. "We played well defensively, and that was the key. We got a big-time game from Brandon (Herbert). He showed what he's capable of tonight."

Sophomore forward Lazar Trifunovic (Belgrade, Serbia) produced a workmanlike 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Trifunovic, who missed his first four shots, tallied 12 of those points in the decisive second half. Gordon wound up with 10 points, as did junior guard Dwayne Jackson (Akron, Ohio). Junior forward Reggie Fuller (Missouri City, Texas) chipped in seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Stony Brook center Emanuel Neto led the team with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Binghamton hosts UMBC at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Herbert and Neto were named the America East Players of the Game...Gordon has now started 89 straight games...The seven Bearcats to have scored 20 or more points in a game this season are Richard Forbes, Gordon, Herbert, Jackson, Milos Klimovic, Devon McBride, and Trifunovic...The Bearcats now lead the all-time Division-I series 10-4.
