VESTAL, N.Y. -- Senior guard Jon Iati scored a game-high 18 points to lead visiting Albany (14-14, 9-6 AE) to a 74-62 win over Binghamton (13-15, 8-7 AE) in an America East game Wednesday night at the Events Center. The televised game between the two longtime SUNY rivals drew 4,711.

The Bearcats struggled at both ends of the floor from the opening whistle, and never threatened the Great Danes, who took over sole possession of third place with one regular season game remaining. Binghamton had its three-game win streak snapped and dropped back into sixth place.

"They were the better team tonight," head coach Kevin Broadus said of Albany. "Our guys didn't play up to task and we didn't shoot the ball well at all. Albany was stronger for the full 40 minutes."

Binghamton misfired on 11 of its first 14 shots and fell behind 14-6 with 12:42 to play in the first half. The Bearcats cut the margin to 16-14 with 5:55 to play but Iati sparked a 15-4 Danes' run to end the half. He hit back-to-back three-pointers and Albany put 10 points on the board in the final 2:12 to open up a 31-18 halftime lead.

Junior forward Reggie Fuller (Missouri City, Texas) scored all 10 of his points in the second half and BU trimmed its deficit to eight, 53-45, with 8:43 left, but the Great Danes promptly put together a 13-1 run to extend their lead to 20. Albany shot 65% in the second half to seal the win and gain a split of the season series.

Senior guard Mike Gordon (Plainfield, N.J.) started his 100th consecutive game and led BU with 11 points and eight rebounds. Fuller added a team-high nine boards and sophomore forward Lazar Trifunovic (Belgrade, Serbia) chipped in 10 points.

Binghamton concludes its regular season with an away game Sunday at Stony Brook.
