STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Visiting Binghamton (14-15, 9-7 AE) defeated Stony Brook (6-22, 3-13 AE) 49-44 in the regular-season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon at Stony Brook Arena. Playing without their leading scorer and with only eight scholarship players available, the Bearcats won their fourth game in the last five and equaled their second-best America East win percentage in the program's seven-year Division I tenure (9-7, .563).

"It wasn't the prettiest game," assistant coach Lawrence Brenneman said. "But when you play a team like Stony Brook you know its going to be a scrappy one."

Senior guard Mike Gordon (Plainfield, N.J.) made two free throws with four seconds remaining to seal the victory. Gordon finished the day with 15 points and now has 1,000 in his career.

Neither team shot well from the floor in the game as the host Seawolves shot 31% and the Bearcats shot 36%. Also, both teams struggled picking up defensive rebounds as 36 of the 74 total rebounds were offensive.

Senior guard Richard Forbes (Far Rockaway) scored a game-high 16 points and keyed a first-half run for the Bearcats.

Stony Brook used a 2-3 zone to limit Binghamton's opportunities early in the first half en route to taking a 13-4 lead with 12:15 remaining in the period. The Bearcats then picked up their defensive effort and used a 16-2 run with the help of three treys from Forbes to take a 22-17 halftime lead.

Binghamton will now await Sunday's remaining America East games to learn of the team's postseason seed and quarterfinal opponent. The conference tournament will be hosted by Binghamton at the Events Center March 7-9.
