Bu Men's Soccer Loses 2-1 in overtime at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. --- Anthony Santaga scored 2:05 into the first sudden-death overtime period, leading Hartford (5-8-4, 2-2-2 AE) to a 2-1 victory over Binghamton (4-10-2, 0-4-2 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Wednesday night at Alumni Stadium. With the loss, the Bearcats will miss qualifying for the conference's post-season tournament for the first time in nine seasons.

Santaga's heroics were set up when Hartford got a corner kick with two minutes gone in the first overtime period. David Bernhardsson took the kick and found Santaga in the middle of the goal box. Santaga fired the ball into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Binghamton forced overtime when Ryan Walter deadlocked the game at 1-1 in the 75th minute of regulation. The senior captain's initial shot was stopped by Hartford goalkeeper Luke Citriniti but he got his own rebounds and shot the ball in the left side of the net. It was Walter's third goal of the season.

Hartford's first goal also came off a corner kick by Bernhardsson. In the 40th minute, his cross was headed in by Connor Yeaney to break a scoreless tie. It was Yeaney's first goal of the season.

The Hawks outshot Binghamton 15-5 for the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Hayen made for saves for the Bearcats while Citriniti had a pair of saves for Hartford.

Binghamton's 2011 season finale is on Saturday night at home against Boston University at 7 p.m.
