VESTAL, N.Y. -- Visiting Army drilled 11 three-pointers and ran away from Binghamton men's basketball 70-50 Saturday night from the Events Center. The Black Knights (3-5) built a 13-point halftime lead and shot 60 percent in the second period to deny the Bearcats (0-6) any comeback. An announced crowd of 3,162 and Time Warner Cable Sports audience were treated to a pair of recognition ceremonies as retiring athletics director Jim Norris and Major League Baseball player and former Bearcat Scott Diamond were honored during the game.

Binghamton led 16-15 with 9:40 to play in the opening period as both teams struggled early on. But Army embarked on a 21-4 run that featured four three-pointers and on the other end, a 1-for-10 shooting slump for the Bearcats, who hit just 8-of-33 in the first half (24%) and 33% for the game. Down 13 at the break, BU drew no closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Ella Ellis scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Black Knights. Ellis hit 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Julian Simmons chipped in 14 minutes and Army kept fresh bodies rotating in and out of the game with nine players getting 11 or more minutes of action.

Freshman forward Jabrille Williams and sophomore guard Robert Mansell each tallied 12 points for the Bearcats, who also received 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds from freshman forward Ben Dickinson.

The Bearcats welcome Patriot League power Bucknell to the Events Center on Tuesday. The Bison won 25 games and reached the NCAA tournament as a No. 14 seed last season. Retiring Binghamton University President C. Peter Magrath will be honored before the game.
