VESTAL, N.Y. – Freshman forward
Logan Roberts had a goal and an assist, powering Binghamton (3-7-2, 1-1-0 AE) to a 3-0 win over UMass Lowell (2-11-0, 0-2-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Homecoming crowd of 1,716 was the largest of the season.
Roberts' heroics came in the final 22 minutes of regulation. With the Bearcats clinging to a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute, he set up senior forward
Marts Reid-Warden with a cross directly in front of the goal. Twenty minutes later, he finished off a cross from freshman forward
Alex Varkatzas to seal the game.
With most of the crowd still filing into the Complex, junior
Ben Nicholson opened the scoring by converting a free kick in just the second minute of play. It was his second goal in the past three matches.
At the other end of the field, sophomore goalkeeper
Stefano Frantellizzi made six saves to record his fourth solo shutout of the season.
"I am delighted for our guys tonight," head coach
Paul Marco said. "We finished the game very strong, which is something that we talked about at the half. The crowd was fantastic tonight."
The shots were even for the game at 10-10.
Up next is a Wednesday match against Stony Brook at 7 p.m.
