VESTAL, N.Y. – Emmett O'Connor scored in the 38th minute, leading St. Bonaventure (6-3-0) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (2-5-2) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Friday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The crowd of 1,419 was the largest of the season.
O'Connor took a pass from James Reed and went streaking down the left side line. He had a clear path to the goal and slid it home from 10 yards out. It was his fourth goal of the season.
The goal aside, neither team was able to muster much offense through the first 60 minutes of the match. At that point, the shot count was tied at 2-2.
Over the final 30 minutes, the Bearcats made a furious push for the equalizer and wound up with a 9-3 shot advantage for the match. In the end, however, they were unable to find the back of the net.
"I thought we were quite good between the boxes tonight but give (O'Connor) credit on the goal," he said. "I thought we played hard in moments, especially at the end of the match."
Binghamton heads to Syracuse for a 7 p.m. match on Tuesday afternoon. Time Warner Sports is slated to televise the event live. More details will be released in the coming days.
