Men’s Soccer Opens Conference Play Against Hartford

Bearcats host Hawks on Saturday at 7 p.m.

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (2-8-0, 0-0-0 AE) lost 1-0 at Hofstra on Tuesday evening. Sophomore forward Alex Varkatzascontinues to lead the team with two goals and four points. Junior forward Luca Bottoni and sophomore back Charlie Novorth each have a goal and an assist.

- Hofstra (4-3-2, 0-0-0 AE) defeated Central Connecticut 3-1 on Tuesday night at home. Javoni Simms leads a balanced attack with six total points (two goals and a pair of assists). In goal, David MacKinnon has recorded three shutouts so far this season.

- The series between the two teams is tied at 6-6-2. Last year, Binghamton played Hartford to a scoreless tie on the road Oct. 19. In the America East quarterfinals, however, Javoni Simms scored in overtime to lead the host Hawks to a 1-0 win. 

- Defensively, the Bearcats have allowed one goal or fewer in eight of their first 10 matches. This includes a 2-0 shutout victory over Niagara on Sept. 7.

Robert Moewes' 11-save performance against Syracuse on Sept. 23 marked the eighth time in Binghamton's Division I era that a goalkeeper has stopped at least 10 shots.
