Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Correll Grace had a goal and an assist, leading host Lehigh (1-0-0) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (0-2-0) in a non-conference women's soccer game on Sunday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The game was the second in three days for the Bearcats.
Grace broke open a scoreless tie with just 57 seconds remaining in the first half. She headed in a cross from Paige Elliott, who was stationed to the left of the goal. Madi Morgan was also credited with an assist.
With the Bearcats pressing for the equalizer in the 76th minute, the Mountain Hawks were able to turn a counterattack into an insurance goal. Grace finished the run by crossing the ball to Darby Wiegand, who headed the ball into the net.
Binghamton fired four shots in the final 13 minutes of regulation but was unable to break the shutout.
"I thought we came out stronger than we did against Temple on Friday," head coach Sarah McClellan said. "But it was unfortunate that we allowed that goal late in the first half. We are still missing some players (due to injury) but we got to finish off our chances better. Lehigh finished off two great chances against us."
In a wide open game, the Mountain Hawks finished with a 23-14 shot advantage.
Senior goalkeeper Gaby Gold made five saves in the first half while freshman goalkeeper Katie Hatziyianis recorded a pair of stops in the second half.
Binghamton returns home on Friday for a 5 p.m. game against Manhattan.
