Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y. - Â The Binghamton volleyball team fell to Holy Cross in four sets on the final day of the Black Knights Invitational, Sunday morning at historic West Point. The Bearcats dropped to 1-10 on the season after their sixth four-set defeat in the last seven games. Holy Cross won its second match of the tournament 25-20, 24-26, 25-13, 25-12 defeating Binghamton for the first time in series history improving to 1-2 all-time.

The Bearcats held a brief lead thanks to a service ace by sophomore
Kelly Leach, but Holy Cross answered with an 8-1 run forcing a Binghamton timeout. Burgess connected on five kills during the frame, but it wasn't enough as the Crusaders took a 1-0 advantage, 25-20.
Binghamton leveled the match at one game apiece after hanging on for the 26-24 victory in the second set. Three straight kills by

Alexis LaGoy handed the Bearcats an early 10-5 lead.
Binghamton extended its cushion to seven thanks to Holy Cross errors, but the Crusaders chipped away at the deficit to pull within two. Following a Hovie kill and Dettmann ace that pushed the lead back to five, Holy Cross fought off five straight set-points to tie the stanza at 24. However, back-to-back errors by the Crusaders handed the Bearcats the second set.
Holy cross eased to victory in the third set, 25-13, after a devastating 11-0 run turned a five-point deficit into a six-point lead. Following the back-breaking run, Binghamton was unable to generate any offense recording a .071 hitting percentage during the set. The Crusaders connected on 15 kills while hitting .333 to create the 12-point margin.
The Crusaders led start to finish in the fourth set capturing the frame 25-12. Holy Cross hit a match-high .372, scoring 19 of its 25 points off kills. Binghamton struggled offensively throughout the frame managing just six terminations during the set.
Burgess finished the match with a team-high 15 kills and a solid .364 hitting percentage. Leach recorded a career-high 21 digs in her third straight start. Dettmann finished the day with 29 assists and nine digs.
Holy Cross was efficient all afternoon turning an 82-64 dig margin into a plus-26 kill advantage over Binghamton. The Bearcats were solid at the net maintaining a nine to five advantage.
Over the weekend Dettmann moved into third all-time in program history in career assists with 3,532. The 2012 Co-Setter of the Year surpassed Lindsey Mueller, who amassed 3,446 during three seasons (2007-09) at Binghamton.
Binghamton completes its non-conference tournament schedule next weekend at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for The Best Western Wild Weekend Tournament. The Bearcats will face the host Hawks, Bethune-Cookman, Rider and Campbell during the two-day five team tournament near the Chesapeake Bay.
