Zotter breaks pool record in 200 yard breast stroke

VESTAL N.Y - The Binghamton swimming & diving teams hosted Bucknell Sunday for their first meet of the new year. The men were edged out 168-127 while the women were defeated 170-125. Despite the setbacks, the Bearcats produced several individual victories. 

Senior Corinne Zotter broke a pool record in the 100 breast with a time of 1.04:53, breaking the previous mark of 1:05.49 set by Anneli Johnson from St. Bonaventure in 2008. Zotter went on to to secure a win in the 200 breast (2.23.01) and was on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:49.62) alongside senior Shannon Lampe, junior Selina Ng and freshman Abby Humphreys.

The men recorded top three finishes in the 50 free and 200 IM. In the 50 free event junior Darin Gillenwater (22.45) came in first, followed by teammates sophomore Liam Cashin (22.80) and freshman Peter Behan (22.84). In the 200 IM, Cashin finished first with a time of 1:57.80 followed by sophomore Ruan Zorgman (1:59.79) and junior Isaac Vingan (2:06.37).

The women also swept the top three places in the 200 IM as junior Stephanie Malyszka (2:14.57) took first followed by sophomore Katie Chung (2.19.52) and freshman Kristen Pozmanter (2:22.54).

Binghamton took first in both the men's and women's 200 free relay. For the men, Behan, Cashin, Amit Bachar and Eric Farm finished with a time of 1:29. On the women's side Lampe, Ng, senior Timea Tozser and Zotter clocked a team of 2:14.57.

Other first-place performances were turned in by senior Imani Williams in the women's three-meter diving competition (240.53) while senior Devin Zdnowski finished first in both the one-  and three-meter diving events with scores of 280.80 and 297.15 respectively.

The Bearcats will host Colgate on Friday at 1 p.m.
