VESTAL, N.Y.- The Binghamton wrestling team heads to Albany for three matches at the Journeymen/ASICs Northeast Duals on Sunday, November 13. The Bearcats face LIU Post at 9:20 a.m., Nassua Community College at 1:15 p.m., and #14 North Carolina at 3:15 p.m. All contests will be held at Hudson Valley Community College.
BU went 2-1 to open the 2015-16 season on November 1 at Rutgers. It hammered Franklin and Marshall and Centenary (NJ) before falling to then-#18 Rutgers. Binghamton then hosted the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open last weekend, as
Steve Schneider and
Anthony DePrez each finished third at the event.
Vincent DePrez is 8-3 this season, while his brother, Anthony, has a 7-2 mark. Schneider is 6-2 and
Jacob Nicholson is 6-3 on the year. Schneider is ranked 33
rd among 184-pounders in this week's Wrestling Report rankings. Senior
Jack McKeever is also recognized, coming in at 33
rd in his 174-pound class.
LIU Post has a 1-0 record in duals this season, having won, 25-14, at Shippensburg on Wednesday. The Pioneers won seven of the ten matches, including a pin by 165-pounder Ed Ramirez, Jr. Joe Calderon, a 133-pound sophomore, place sixth at the NCAA Division II Championships last year.
Nassua Community College opens its new season Sunday. Joe Russ, a 133-pounder, won the NJCAA Championship last spring.
UNC competed at the Hokie Duals to begin competition last weekend. Alex Utley, a 184-pounder, won his division's title, going 4-0 at the tournament. Last season, the Tar Heels finished 24
th at NCAAs, with Ethan Ramos advancing to the semifinals before eventually taking sixth in the 165-pound bracket. This year, UNC features six nationally-ranked grapplers, led by Ramos, who is tabbed third. Senior Evan Henderson is also third among 141-pounders.
