Moewes Repeats as America East Goalkeeper of the Year

Five men's soccer players earn all-conference honors

VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior goalkeeper Robert Moewes has been named the America East Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year for the second season in a row. The announcement was made as the 2015 men's soccer all-conference teams were unveiled on Friday afternoon.

Moewes, who was also named to the America East All-Academic Team, was joined on the first team by graduate student midfielder Pascal Trappe and junior back Zach Galluzzo. In addition, freshman midfielder Harrison Weilbacher and freshman back Kevin Flesch were both named to the America East All-Rookie Team.

Moewes led the America East with 4.47 saves per game and recorded five solo shutouts. He is the first Binghamton player to be named first-team all-conference and be selected to the conference's All-Academic Team in the same year since Adam Chavez in 2007. Furthermore, Moewes is the first Binghamton men's soccer player to win a major conference award multiple times since Graham Munro was the Defender of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

Trappe led the Bearcats with five goals and 11 total points. His biggest goal was the game winner in Binghamton's 1-0 win over then No. 28 Ohio State back on August 28.

Galluzzo, meanwhile, anchored the Bearcat backline this season. He also scored three goals, two of which came in the Bearcats' 2-1 win over Siena on Sept. 19.

This marks the first time that the Bearcats have posted three first-team all-conference selections since the 2007 season.

"We are delighted that Robert was able to repeat as the Goalkeeper of the Year," head coach Paul Marco said. "It is hard to win the award twice in a row. We are also happy for Pascal who has had to overcome injuries. A year ago, we were not even sure he could play this season. And Zach has been our most improved and consistent player this year."

Weilbacher led the Bearcats with four assists this season. His lone goal of the season, however, was the game winner in the Bearcats' 2-1 win over UMBC on Oct. 24. Flesch, meanwhile, started 16 games in the backfield.

Binghamton (8-7-2) is the No. 5 seed in the upcoming America East Tournament. The Bearcats head to No. 4 Stony Brook for a first-round game on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

NOTE: Chavez, Barry Neville and Cameron Keith were all named first-team all-conference in 2007.
