HAMDEN, Conn.--The,,Binghamton women's lacrosse team (1-1, 0-0 AE) sprinted out to a 10-2 lead, and held on late to beat the Quinnipiac Bobcats (0-3, 0-0 MAAC) 11-8 this afternoon.,

"I thought the team came out strong, we did a good job distributing the offense," reflected Head Coach Stephanie Allen. "It was a team effort out there and I'm very proud of them for holding on for the win."

Binghamton got off to a hot start, scoring the first four goals of the game. Callon Williams opened the scoring with her first goal of the season just under four minutes into the game. Then a Quinnipiac penalty gave Binghamton a player advantage, and Alex Fisher used the opportunity to send home her first goal of the season. A minute later Sophia Racciatti scored her first goal, and two minutes after that Renee Kiviat made it 4-0 with a free position goal.

"It was great to get ahead early,",admitted,Allen. "We haven't been, outside much, so it was great to see the girls utilize the full field. I'm very please with the pace and energy in the first half."

Binghamton turned up the heat following a pair of Quinnipiac goals, scoring five more times to close out the half leading 9-2. Callon Williams then made it 10-2 when she scored less than two minutes into the second half. From that point forward Quinnipiac shut down the Bearcats, allowing only an Alex Fisher goal for the rest of the game. The Bobcats scored six goals in the second half, but Erin McNulty and the Binghamton defense kept them from getting any closer, as Quinnipiac was held scoreless the final 13 minutes of the game.

"Erin played a solid game between the pipes," stated Allen. "Her and the defense kept the team in the game, and was able to come up with some big stops when we were a man down, to get the ball back into our hands."

McNulty ended up making 8 saves in net to earn her first win of the season.

Racciatti led the scoring for Binghamton, with her first hat trick of the season. Renee Kiviat, Alex Fisher, and Callon Williams each chipped in two goals apiece. Valerie DeNapoli tallied her first goal of the season, and Miriam Ghabarou notched her first collegiate goal.

The win is Binghamton's first of the year and second in a row against the Quinnipiac. The Bearcats return to action this Wednesday, March 4, for their home opener. BU will host Lafayette College at the Bearcats Sports Complex, with the start time set for 4 p.m.
