VESTAL, N.Y. - The Bearcats logo has earned a spot among the Top-10 "Most Intimidating Sports Logos" in college and professional sports. The website gamedayishere.com lists the Bearcat No. 6 on its list, which also includes the NBA's Chicago Bulls, NFL's Oakland Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles and NHL's Nashville Predators and three other college logos.

GameDay is Here had this to say about the logo:

"The Binghamton Bearcats may not be a household name, but their logo definitely sets them apart from most other college programs. The green beast has just one intention here, to do bodily harm to whomever is in its path."

The logo was unveiled on August 27, 1999 while the university was in the midst of its transition to NCAA Division I status. The change from the previous "Colonials" nickname was made after more than seven years of campus-wide study. The logo was created by SME Design of New York City and the accompanying text described it  as a mythical animal that combines the power and ferocity of a bear with the cunning and quickness of a cat.

Now in its 16th year as the primary emblom of Binghamton's 21-sport athletics program, the Bearcats logo has garnered widespread visibility and has stirred enthusiasm and school spirit on campus, throughout the community and among Binghamton's alumni and fans across the globe.
