Box Score RICHMOND, Va. - Unbeaten Atlantic 10 power VCU (3-0) showed why it's been to six straight NCAA tournaments as the host Rams shot 56 percent and pinned an 81-42 loss on Binghamton men's basketball (2-2) Friday night at the Siegel Center.
Playing in front of a sellout crowd (7,637) for the 85th consecutive game at the Siegel Center, VCU quickly reversed a 6-4 Bearcat lead and the subsequent 16-0 run gave the Rams a 20-6 lead. After a three-pointer from senior guard
Marlon Beck II brought BU to within 10, 24-14, VCU closed out the first half with an 11-2 run to build a 35-16 cushion at intermission.
In the second half, the Rams, who are 'receiving votes' in the
USA Today Coaches Poll, put 46 more points on the board, thanks to 61 percent shooting.Â
"VCU is a very good team," head coach
Tommy Dempsey said. "We needed to play really well and hope they didn't play well to have a chance ... and it went the other way. They played really well and we didn't and it got away from us. They don't let you throw a pass and that puts a lot of pressure on your offense. We were sloppy with the ball in the first half with 12 turnovers and when you turn it over in this environment it gets away from you. We didn't have a lot of answers but now we have to move forward and get ready for our trip to Florida."
Freshman guard
Fard Muhammad led BU with 10 points and sophomore guard
Everson Davis added nine points.
Binghamton will begin a four-games-in-six-days stretch in Florida with a game at Ave Maria on Tuesday night.
