Swimming and Diving Turns In Strong Showing at Florida International Sprint Invitational

Men finish first, women finish second

Miami, Fl. The Binghamton swimming & diving program competed at the Florida International Sprint Invite on Friday, January 6. The men finished first out of six teams scoring 716.5 points and the women finished second out of eight teams with a point total of 572.5.
 
Men
Thomas Mackey led the men with three top-five finishes and one top-10 finish. Mackey finished second in the 100 breast (1:00.21), third in the 50 breast (28.11), fifth in the 100 IM (59.96) and seventh in the 200 free (1:50.88). Ryan O'Connel claimed first place in both the one-meter dive (242.05) and the three-meter dive (215.50). Liam Cashin added three top-10 finishes while Leonid Simkin and Alex Brion each posted two. Cashin finished fifth in the 100 free (50.23), fourth in the 50 breast (28.37) and sixth in the 100 IM (57.37). Simkin placed fourth in the 100 breast (1:03.51) and fifth in the 50 breast (28.40). Alex Brion finished second in the 50 free (22.33) and 100 free (49.77). Other top finishers include Arthur Uszynski in the 50 free (third place, 22.61), Steve Campagna in the 50 back (third place, 25.72) and Cooper Langanis (third place, 3:59.57). Colin Coughlin dove for second place in the 1 meter with a score of 188.69 while Christopher Roberts scored 1554.95 in the 3 meter dive to also capture second place. In the relays the men finished second in both the 200 medley (1:37.60) and the 200 free (1:30.72).
 
Women
Sydney Atendido led the women with a first and fourth place finish on the day. Atendido won the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.72 and placed fourth in the 50 breast with a time of 31.91. Katilyn Lange added three top-10 finishes while Rebecca Nelson posted two. Lange finished fifth in the 50 butterfly (26.84), eighth in the 50 free (25.70) and fifth in the 100 free (55.83). Nelson placed seventh in the 100 back (1:02.41) and fifth in the 50 breast (32.52). Other top finishers include Morgan Harrington in the 200 free (fifth place, 2:03.51) and Maria Trivino in the 100 breast (fifth place, 1:11.97). The Bearcats finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:54.30) and third in the 200 free relay (1:43.13).
 
Both teams are back in action on Saturday, January 14th against St. Bonaventure at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center.
