LEWISBURG, P.A.- The Binghamton wrestling team will wrestle twice this weekend, beginning with a dual at Bucknell Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. This will be the fourth consecutive road match for them as they finish their away schedule matchups. The Bearcats return home to wrestle Penn on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the West Gym.Â
Binghamton is coming off of three straight road wins, a big one coming from American last weekend. The 25-11 win included victories over three nationally ranked wrestlers, earning five Bearcats spots on the RPI (rating percentage index) rankings and two on the NCAA Coaches' Poll. For RPI, Steven Bulzomi is ranked No. 31 at 125, Parker Kropman is ranked No. 31 at 149, Steve Schneider is ranked No. 15 at 184, Mark Tracy is ranked No. 26 at 197 and Connor Calkins is ranked No. 27 at 285. For the coaches poll, Vincent DePrez is ranked No. 32 at 165 and Steve Schneider is ranked No. 13 at 184.Â
Bucknell enters this match on a seven-match winning streak, five of which were won at home. The Bison defeated American 29-4 last Friday and topped Sacred Heart 31-9 the next day. Tyler Smith (141 pounds) is ranked No. 12, Victor Lopez (157) is ranked No. 14 and Tom Sleigh (197) is ranked No. 10 on InterMat this week. For the NCAA coaches poll, Smith is ranked No. 18, Lopez is ranked No. 15, Garrett Hoffman is ranked No. 30 at 184 and Sleigh is ranked No. 15. In RPI, Smith is ranked No. 11, Lopez is ranked No. 14, Hoffman is No. 28 and Sleigh is No. 11.Â
Penn will stop in Binghamton on Saturday on its' three-match road trip. Penn is currently 4-6 overall and 2-5 in EIWA duals. Penn's squad is spearheaded by three guys, with Frank Mattiace ranked No. 17 at 197, Casey Kent ranked No. 13 at 174 and two-time national champion Gabe Dean ranked No. 1 at 184.Â
In the all-time series matchup, Bucknell leads Binghamton 4-3, dating back to 2001. The Bison won the most recent meeting, a 21-15 victory in 2016. In 2015, the Bearcats beat Bucknell 18-16. This will be the fourth straight year that these two teams will meet.
Binghamton is looking for it's first win against Penn on Saturday, after losing in the past five matchups. The Quakers picked up a 24-9 win last year and 26-10 win the year before that.Â
