VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball begins its second weekend of action in 2017 with a trip to Richmond, Va. The Bearcats (0-3) will play neutral games against Toledo on Friday and Saturday mornings and then wrap up the weekend with a Sunday tilt against the host Spiders. All three games will be played at Astroturf-surfaced Pitt Field. 

Binghamton opened its spring campaign last weekend against Mountain West favorite New Mexico and despite nearly matching the power-hitting Lobos in hits (31-29), BU dropped all three games. Sophomore third baseman Justin Yurchak made a splash in his BU debut, going 8-for-13 (.615) in the series. Senior catcher Eddie Posavec drove in three runs and junior shortstop Paul Rufo added four hits.

The Bearcats will send senior right-hander Jake Cryts, sophomore righty Nick Gallagher and junior left-hander Nick Wegmann to the hill in the series.

Toledo (0-4) was swept in the season-opening series last weekend at Tennessee Tech. The MAC-resident Rockets return 11 seniors from a 2016 team that won 19 games and placed third in the MAC West.  Toledo also returns five position starters and 14 of 16 pitchers from that squad. 

Richmond (2-2) fell to defending national champion No. 11 Coastal Carolina, 8-5, in its season opener but the Spiders have won two of three since, including an 11-7 win over Longwood on Tuesday. The Atlantic-10 members return five position starters and 11 pitchers from a 28-24 team that tied for eighth in the A-10. The Spiders were picked to finish fifth in the 2017 A-10 Preseason Poll.
