Baseball hosts Marist Tuesday

Game moved up a day; BU begins 13-game homestand with 4 p.m. first pitch

VESTAL, N.Y. - Sporting the team's best overall record in seven years, Binghamton baseball (16-7) hosts Marist (17-14) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup was moved up a day due to much better weather in the forecast on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.

The Bearcats are coming off a weekend sweep of Albany and have won five of their last six games and 15 of their last 19.

In the Albany series, junior catcher Jason Agresti went 8-for-13 (.615) with three RBI and junior center fielder CJ Krowiak went 6-for-11 (.545). Binghamton's pitching staff posted a 0.72 ERA. In the five games last week (4-1), junior second baseman Luke Tevlin hit .462 and junior shortstop Paul Rufo hit .368 with a team-high five RBI. Rufo leads the Bearcats with 19 RBI this spring.

Tuesday's game begins a stretch of 13 straight home games. The Bearcats are scheduled to use multiple pitchers, beginning with freshman Ben Anderson (0-1, 6.00 ERA).

The Red Foxes took two of three from MAAC foe Monmouth over the weekend to move to 7-5 in league play. The wins followed three straight losses — two of which came against America East members Stony Brook (L 9-2) and Hartford (L 18-16) last week.

Marist was picked to finish fifth of 11 in the MAAC Preseason Poll, right where they finished last season.

The team is hitting .262 and has a pitching ERA of 4.42.

Junior infielder Andrew Rouse leads the team with a .348 average. Freshman infielder Tyler Kapuscinski is hitting .336 with a .451 on-base percentage. Junior infielder Greg Kocinski has a team-high 29 RBI and preseason All-MAAC DH Frankie Gregoire has five home runs and 25 RBI. Freshman right-hander Conor McNamara (2-2, 6.87 ERA) is expected to start on the hill.

The all-time series between the two schools is tied at 6-6. Last spring in Poughkeepsie, the teams split a twinbill. Two years ago BU had a win and a tie in the two games in Vestal.

NOTE
The last time BU was nine games over the .500 mark was back in 2010, when the Bearcats finished 31-20 and won the America East regular season title.
