STORY LINES
- Binghamton begins the 2017 campaign having recorded back-to-back winning seasons. Last year, the Bearcats were 7-6-6 and were ranked as high as No. 10 in the NSCAA Northeast Region Poll.
- The Bearcats return their top two point scorers from last year. Senior midfielder
Ben Ovetsky and junior forward Nikkos Psarras each finished with five goals and 11 total points. In goal, redshirt sophomore
Alejandro Cubillo is the top returner, having started 18 matches and recorded six solo shutouts.
- This year's squad is under the leadership of captains
Charlie Novoth and
Kevin Flesch. Novoth is a redshirt senior who is in his second year as a captain. Flesch, meanwhile, is a junior and was named to the America East All-Rookie Team in 2015 as well as the All-Tournament Team last season.
- George Washington went 8-5-5 last season, playing in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Garrett Heine is the Colonials' top returner scorer, having finished the 2016 season with seven goals and 19 total points. In goal, Thor Arne Hofs recorded a 0.60 GAA last year and posted a .861 save percentage.
- Binghamton and George Washington played to a 0-0 tie last Aug. 29. It marked the inaugural meeting between the two programs.
- This Sept. 29 marks the 10-year anniversary of the first men's soccer game at the Bearcats Sports Complex. In the decade that began that night (a 3-0 win over Cornell), Binghamton has gone 38-27-12, hosted six America East Tournament games and has averaged nearly 900 fans a match.
- This marks the second straight year Binghamton has opened up its season at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats defeated Canisius 2-1 last year behind a goal and an assist by current junior midfielder
