Flashback: Women's Soccer at the Bearcats Sports Complex

On 10-year anniversary of stadium opening in 2007, a look at the top-five games played

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Bearcats Sports Complex opened in Fall 2007 for men's and women's soccer and later in the spring, men's and women's lacrosse. The lighted, turf stadium has been host to numerous significant games over that 10-year span.

The women's soccer team christened the complex on Sept. 18, 2007 when they hosted Syracuse. The men's soccer team played its inaugural game there 11 days later when they welcomed Cornell.

Here's a quick look at the top-five women's soccer games played at the 2,534-seat complex.

1. Nov. 1, 2009 - America East semifinals: Binghamton 0, Maine 0 (2ot)
Second-seeded Bearcats tied No. 3 Maine 0-0 before BU won the shootout 4-2 to advance to America East championship game. Stefani Knopick, Emily Pape, Mary DeWitte and Nicole Montoya all scored and Jen McEachron made two saves to clinch the advancement.

2. Sept. 18, 2007 - Inaugural Game: Syracuse 2, Binghamton 1 (ot)
A strong Big East Syracuse program came down I-81 to play the opening game at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Kim Povill scored the first goal at the facility in the 39th minute but SU spoiled the party with a tying goal in the 53rd minute and the overtime winner just 41 seconds into the extra period. The game featured 33 shots and was seen by 922 fans.

3. Oct. 4, 2007: Binghamton 4, Vermont 2
In their second conference game of the season, the Bearcats raced out to a 3-0 lead and held off visiting Vermont for their first America East win at the new facility (second overall at BSC after beating NJIT 3-1 on Sept. 25). Katie Kerrigan began the scoring with a penalty shot, Kim Povill scored two straight goals and then with Vermont pressing forward and BU clinging to a 3-2 lead, Danielle White clinched the win with a goal in the closing four seconds when she sent a long ball from near midfield over the keeper's head and into the vacated Catamounts' goal.

4. Aug. 31, 2014: Binghamton 5, Iona 0
Early in the 2014 season, BU set goal-scoring and winning-margin records at the new facility that still stand today. Binghamton scored three goals in a 17-minute span in the first half and then added two second-half goals to blank the visiting Gaels. After a defensive "own goal" starting Iona's downfall, Katie O'Neill scored back-to-back goals to give BU a 3-0 halftime cushion. In the second half, Jocelyn Acor and Jacque Rice added unassisted tallies and Gaby Gold and Katie Hatziyianis split the shutout with each keeper working a half.

Emily Dixon extended the game to an extra period with a goal and then AnnMarie Rizzi sent the 422 fans home happy with a breakaway goal midway through the first OT. Jen McEachron made four saves.
