Former Bearcats and Colonials return to campus

VESTAL, N.Y. – On a day in which the Binghamton swimming & diving program celebrated its women's dual meet win over Colgate, it also paid tribute to its past on Saturday. The Bearcats held their annual Fall Alumni Day and several former swimmers were on hand for the meet as well as the Alumni Dinner that followed.

"We are excited and honored to celebrate this weekend with our alums," head coach Brad Smith said "We are thankful for their continued support of our program. We could not have raised the funds for the new starting blocks without their support, so we are glad they got to see those blocks in action."

On Saturday, the alums sat down in the first few rows and got to witness the women's team's third straight dual meet win. In addition, they saw the men's squad take down four pool records in a Green-White Meet.

"It's great to be here," 2015 graduate Corrinne Zotter said, "It's exciting to see how far the program has come.

Travis Blank, a 2018 graduate shared those sentiments.

"It's good to see a lot of familiar faces," he said. "And it's good to see the team growing and improving. They are definitely ahead of where we were last year when I was a senior."

The Binghamton swimming & program has a long history of alumni support. The bond the alums have with the current program can be rooted to their time at Binghamton.

"We remember why we were so strong of a team to begin with and why we were so close," Zotter said. "We went through a lot of hard practices and great meets together so it was easy to stay close over the years with each other and the program."

"Everyone has a lot of pride in this program," Blank said. "We remember all the hard work we did to be successful."

Blank was part of a senior class that was part of the first America East Championship Meet in five years. It is a memory that only strengthens the connection he has to the program.

"It was really special to not just go to the meet but for us to finish second and get the runner-up trophy," he said. "When I was a freshman, Coach Smith said he would get us into a conference meet by the time we were seniors and he delivered in the biggest way."

The alums were no doubt excited to watch the meet but when they were asked if they were ready to jump in the pool and compete, they did not seem as eager.

"I do miss it but I think I am a little rusty today," Zotter said. "It's good to see new people taking the reigns right now."
