VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball returns to Richmond for the second straight weekend when the Bearcats (3-6) face VCU (5-8) in a three-game weekend series at The Diamond. After a weather adjustment, the teams will play a single game at 3 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday.

The Bearcats have gone 1-2 in each of their first three series' to begin 2018. Last weekend at Richmond, BU won the opening game 5-4 before losing a pair of tight games, 3-2 and 6-4. Of the team's six losses this spring, four have come by two runs or less.

Junior outfielder Anthony Meduri leads the team with a .375 average. Senior catcher Jason Agresti is batting .355 with six RBI and senior center fielder CJ Krowiak is hitting .293 with a team-best seven extra-base hits and team-high seven RBIs. 

Junior reliever Jake Miller (2-0, 1.80) and freshman reliever Reid VanScoter (2.00 ERA) have been the steadiest on the hill. 

VCU is coming off a 6-4 home win over Norfolk State on Wednesday. The Rams were picked to finish second in the Atlantic-10 Preseason Poll and are one of just eight teams across the nation who have won 35 or more games four straight years. Last spring, VCU (35-22, 21-7 A-10) was on the verge of an NCAA bid before losing twice to Davidson in the Atlantic 10 championship, needing just one win to advance. This spring the team dropped three games to common opponent Liberty, who in turn took two of three from the Bearcats.

Since 1998, the Rams have won at a 75 percent clip at their home stadium, which doubles as the home field for the Eastern League Richmond Flying Squirrels. The 9,560-seat, natural-grass stadium is regarded as one of the finest on the East Coast.

Binghamton and VCU have matched up just once before - a three-game home sweep for the Rams back in 2012.
