Bearcats and River Hawks set to play DH starting at noon at Baseball Complex

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball resumes America East play when the Bearcats (6-15, 2-4 AE) host UMass Lowell (10-14, 3-3 AE) in a three-game weekend set. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday and then finish with a single game on Sunday.

The Bearcats  are coming off a 9-6 win at Bucknell on Wednesday. The team is hitting .227 and has a pitching ERA of 5.86. The Bearcats are now 40% through the regular season (29 games remaining).

Junior right fielder Anthony Meduri continues to pace the offense with a .352 average and 12 RBI. Senior catcher Jason Agresti has nine doubles, 13 RBI and a team-best .413 on-base percentage.

The pitching staff has been anchored by three underclassmen out of the bullpen. Sophomore Ben Anderson has allowed just four earned runs in 16.0 innings, classmate Jake Miller has 17 strikeouts in 19.0 innings and freshman Reid VanScoter has a team-best 4.5/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Saturday's starters will be junior Nick Gallagher (1-4, 8.17 ERA) and senior Nick Wegmann (1-4, 5.10).

The River Hawks have been idle since dropping two of three at Stony Brook last weekend. UML has played 10 straight one-run games — the longest such streak in the nation this season. The team started conference play by taking two of three against Albany.

Junior outfielder Russ Olive leads the team with a .382 average, 17 extra-base hits (7 HR) and 18 RBI. Senior outfielder Colby Maiola is hitting .356 with 20 RBI and sophomore outfielder Cam Climo has a team-high 25 RBI.

Pitching on Saturday will be senior righty Andrew Ryan (1-1, 5.20 ERA) and junior lefty Jack Riley (1-4, 5.95).

Lowell leads the all-time series 10-9, though BU has won four of the last five — all of which were played in 2017.
