Bearcats and Bonnies square off at 3 p.m. in Olean as BU begins busy week

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton  baseball (11-25-1) begins a busy five-game week with a non-conference away tilt at St. Bonaventure (9-24) Tuesday afternoon. The teams square off at 3 p.m. at Fred Handler Park in Olean.

The Bearcats took one of three games against Stony Brook over the weekend and are looking to spark momentum for the final push toward a postseason berth. Binghamton (7-11 AE) has some work to do to move into playoff position as the 2018 America East tournament is a six-team event and this spring all seven conference schools are eligible, meaning the seventh place team will not qualify. With six games remaining, BU sits 1.5 games behind Maine for the sixth spot. The two teams will play a pivotal three-game set this weekend up in Orono.

Senior first baseman Luke Tevlin leads the team with a .300 average. Senior catcher Jason Agresti is hitting .277 with a team-best 12 doubles and 19 RBI. Senior shortstop Paul Rufo has a team-high 20 RBI.

Sophomore right-hander Jake Miller (2-1, 5.03 ERA) will get the start against the Bonnies.

St. Bonaventure took one of three games against fellow Atlantic 10 member George Washington over the weekend and the Bonnies are 5-10 in the A-10, good for 10th place (out of 13). The team has a batting average of .237 and a pitching ERA of 5.37.

The Bonnies are expected to use multiple pitchers in the game.

Binghamton has won five straight head-to-head against Bona, including a 10-6 win last year in Vestal. In that game, the teams were tied 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth when sophomore Justin Drpich belted a walk-off grand slam.

After Tuesday's game, BU returns home to host Cornell for the second straight week at the Baseball Complex. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
