VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (14-27-1) will face Siena (15-28) in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Loudonville. The teams will start the twinbill at 1 p.m. at Siena Field.
The Bearcats are coming off a 1-2 weekend at Maine. Binghamton won the opener 7-4 before losing 4-2 and 6-1. The victory in Saturday's DH opener extended BU's win streak to four before the Black Bears responded with back-to-back wins. Senior first baseman
Luke Tevlin hit .500 in the series (5-for-10) with three RBI. Lefty relievers
Reid VanScoter and
Robert Brown were near-perfect out of the pen. VanScoter pitched 4.2 scoreless innings and Brown added 2.1 innings to lower his team-best ERA to 1.17 for the season.Â
Senior shortstop
Paul Rufo leads BU with 24 RBI. Senior center fielder
CJ Krowiak and senior catcher
Jason Agresti have 20 RBI apiece.Â
Sophomore right-hander
Ben Anderson (1-2, 2.03 ERA) will start Game 1 for the Bearcats. Anderson has allowed just seven extra-base hits in 26.2 innings and has 20 strikeouts against just nine walks.
Binghamton is hitting .242 as a team and its pitching ERA has dropped to a league-best 4.74.Â
Siena has steadied itself after starting the 2018 campaign with 17 consecutive losses. The Saints are 11-7 in the MAAC after Monday's 11-1 home win over Rider. They are in fifth place in the MAACÂ and closing in on a playoff spot. Siena has a .266 team batting average and a 5.75 pitching ERA.Â
Like last year, the game will match the Drpich brothers, with BU sophomore third baseman Justin Drypich facing his older brother, senior first baseman Joe Drpich (.345, 8 HR, 33 RBI).Â
Binghamton leads the all-time series 12-9. Last May, BU exploded for 11 runs in the first inning and walloped the visiting Saints 22-1. Two years ago, Siena won 8-7 in Loudonville.
