Bearcats defeat Stony Brook 217-75, fall to New Hampshire 174-114

DURHAM, N.H. – The Binghamton women's swimming & diving team split a tri-meet on Saturday at Swasey Pool. The Bearcats, who are now 6-1 overall, defeated Stony Brook 217-75 but lost to host New Hampshire – the defending America East champion – 174-114.

The Bearcats' current dual meet record represents their best start during their 18-year NCAA Division I era. Their previous best start through seven meets was 5-2 during the 2002-03 campaign.

Binghamton posted two individual winners. Sophomore Kaitlyn Smolar won the 1000 free (10:41.88) and freshman Amanda McGraw took top honors in the one-meter diving competition (238.20).

Taking second place for the Bearcats were junior Sydney Atendido in the 100 breast (1:07.53) and senior Brooke Pettis in the 100 fly ( 58.01).

"We swam much better today than that we did at Marist last week," head coach Brad Smith said. "New Hampshire is a first-class program and coming up here to race them pushed us to a higher level. We are definitely getting more ready for next months conference championships."

Binghamton returns home for its Senior Day Meet against St. Bonaventure next Saturday at 1 p.m.
