Women’s Lacrosse welcomes Bucknell for season opener Wednesday

Bearcats set to kick off season at 4 p.m.

The Binghamton University women's lacrosse team will open the 2020 season at home Wednesday afternoon against Bucknell starting at 4 p.m. The Bearcats will face the Bison for the first time since 2012.

Notes
  • The Bearcats enter the season returning over 70% of the team's offensive production, including six of the team's top seven leading scorers from 2019.
  • Amelia Biancardi (23 goals, second in 2019), Paige Volkmann (12 assists, first in 2019), and Olivia Batista (16 goals, t-third in 2019) will look to lead Binghamton offensively.
  • The Bearcats also welcome ten new faces to the team, all of which are freshmen.
  • Sam Fama and Taylor Passuello look to lead a relatively young defensive core early in the season.
  • Head coach Stephanie Allen enters her eighth season as head coach of the Bearcats. Danielle Cross is in her second season as an assistant coach and Kristin Bolan is in her first year.
A look at Bucknell
  • The Bison finished 4-13 overall last season and went 2-7 in Patriot League play, but are coming off an 18-9 victory over Sacred Heart to begin the season.
  • Senior Morgan Steinbacker returns as Bucknell's leading scorer from last season. She had a goal and an assist in the team's opening matchup with the Pioneers.
  • Eve Calabria also had four goals and three assists in that game against Sacred Heart.
  • The Bison welcome Jackie Dando as head coach this season. She previously won over 62% of her games at Division III Lebanon Valley.
History
  • Bucknell leads the all-time series 3-1
  • The two last met up in 2012, where the Bison won 16-12.
  • Binghamton's win against Bucknell came in 2010, where the team came away with an 18-7 victory.
