Women’s lacrosse to host Niagara Tuesday

Bearcats take on Purple Eagles at 3 p.m.

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton University women's lacrosse team will play host to Niagara Tuesday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Bearcats are coming off a short 1-1 road trip and return home for their second of three straight games against MAAC opponents.

  • Binghamton is coming off a 17-7 loss to Marist, where a slow start in the first half hurt the Bearcats in Poughkeepsie.
  • Alyssa Sanchez was a bright spot for the team, as she netted a hat-trick, while adding four ground balls, five draw controls and a caused turnover.
  • Paige Volkmann continues to lead the Bearcats in overall season points with 13. She has a goal in four of the team's five games played.
  • Despite Binghamton's 1-4 record, the team has 97 ground balls compared to its opponent's 78, and also leads the caused turnover margin 41 to 39.
  • Following Tuesday's matchup, the Bearcats will have three more non-conference games before diving into America East action.
About the Purple Eagles
  • Niagara enters the matchup at 2-3 on the season, and are coming off an 11-8 win over St. Francis (PA).
  • The Purple Eagles are undefeated at home so far, but are 0-3 on the road, including losses at Boston University, Harvard and Marquette. Their wins are against Merrimack and the aforementioned St. Francis.
  • Shea Swartwout has 12 goals for Niagara to lead the team. Teammate Jenna Brill is second on the team in points, and also leads in caused turnovers (five).
  • Goalie Michelle Messenger carried the defense in last week's win over the Red Flash, making 18 saves on 26 shots on goal.
