Generous gift allows for redesign of student-athlete academic space in West Gym

VESTAL, N.Y. - The student-athlete success center has a revamped look and feel, and a new name: Visions Federal Credit Union Center for Student-Athlete Excellence. The Center was celebrated Tuesday afternoon during a dedication that included President Harvey Stenger, Vice President for Advancement John Koch, Interim Director of Athletics Dennis Kalina and Tyrone Muse, President and CEO at Visions Federal Credit Union.

Student-athletes are now able to use the space again after renovations were completed to improve the layout and appearance of the center and provide for programmatic enhancements. In the meantime, the center had been offering all tutoring, meetings with advisors and other programs and services virtually.

The center provides resources and dedicated space, conveniently located in the West Gym, that student-athletes can use to enhance learning, stay organized, better balance the demands of their sport and academics, and position themselves for success at Binghamton University and beyond.

A redesign made the center more efficient for student use and resulted in a gain of 128 square feet. The center is now about 3,500 square feet total. Students have access to new collaborative study spaces, including a group study area and group study rooms, and independent learning areas that provide quiet study space for individuals.

The improvements were made possible thanks to support from Visions Federal Credit Union. A gift-signing event was held in February 2019 at the Binghamton University Events Center.

An estimated 100 student-athletes a day used the facility in person before the COVID-19 pandemic.
