OLEAN, N.Y. – Binghamton won the decisive 400 free relay on the men's side while sophomore
Marley Zimmerman won a meet-best three events on the women's side, highlighting the Bearcats' split in a swimming & diving dual meet at St. Bonaventure on Saturday. Binghamton won the men's meet 155-144 but lost 177-121 in the women's competition.
"I am very happy with how we competed today," head coach
Jerry Cummiskey said. "At this point of the season, we are finishing up our hardest training session of the year and setting ourselves up to be our best in a couple of weeks."
With the men's meet in the balance heading into the final event of the day, the Bearcats took places one, three and five in the 400 free relay. Freshmen
Keegan Chatham and
Elijah Lanfear, junior
Ryan Maierle and senior
Ryan Board formed the first-place quartet, which clocked a time of 3:07.73.
"It's always exciting to have a meet come day to the final relay," Cummiskey said. "I was proud of the way the guys pulled it out in the end."
Zimmerman, meanwhile, won the women's 1000 free (10:48.75), 200 free (1:58.03) and 500 free (5:17.03). It marked the first time in her Binghamton career that she was a triple winner in a dual meet.
Chatham and Maierle were also on the first place 200 medley relay team in the opening event of the meet. They joined sophomore
Liam Murphy and junior
Justin Meyn to clock a time of 1:34.09.
In individual events, Murphy captured the 1000 free (9:52.75), Board won the 100 breast (59.07) and Lanfear took top honors in the 100 fly (55.01). Other winners on the men's side included sophomore
Xiaoyu Lin in the 200 breast (2:13.46) and fellow sophomore
Jake Vecchio in the 200 free (1:45.10).
Also winning on the women's side was sophomore
Molly Greeley in the 50 free (25.04).
"Overall, this was a good day for the team," Cummiskey said. "We look forward to taking another step in the right direction next weekend."
Binghamton travels to Marist next Saturday and hosts Cornell in its Senior Day Meet on Sunday at 1 p.m.
