Binghamton Notes

  • BU is fresh off a 28-13 victory over LIU, in which Brevin Cassella, Cory Day and No. 20 Joe Doyle all had pins.

  • In total, Binghamton won six of 10 bouts. Jacob Nolan, No. 15 Lou DePrez and No. 30 Anthony Sobotker also won bouts for the Bearcats.

  • Binghamton sits at 5-9 on the season, and is 3-1 in EIWA action. The team has produced at least 25 points in all three league wins, and only fell to nationally ranked Lehigh on the road.

  • Sobotker, No. 33 Ryan Anderson, DePrez and Doyle all continue to represent the team in the rankings. DePrez paces the team with a 20-3 record, and boasts a 10-1 dual mark.

  • Cassella (13), Nolan (14) and Nick Lombard (14) all have over 10 wins on the season.

Columbia Projected Lineup
125 | No. 28 Joe Manchio

Scouting the Lions

  • Columbia is 1-5 in duals thus far, but similarly to Binghamton, has had a rigorous schedule. The team's lone victory came in dominating fashion, a 46-0 win over LIU.

  • The Lions also nearly pulled off an upset over No. 17 Lehigh, leading by two into the final matchup, but got pinned and lost 20-16.

  • 125-pounder Joe Manchio (No. 28), 141-pounder Matt Kazimir (No. 16), and 165-pounder Joshua Ogunsanya (No. 21) pace the Lions in the rankings.

  • Manchio has signature victories over No. 20 Jaret Lane of Lehigh and No. 21 Sam Latona of Virginia Tech, while Kazimir has a win over Penn's CJ Composto (No. 17). Ogunsanya is 11-3 this season, with a signature win over No. 24 Brian Meyer of Lehigh.

  • 174-pounder Nick Fine found himself in the NCAA Coaches' Rankings this week. In what could be an important swing match, he will likely take on Jacob Nolan. Nolan defeated Fine 1-0 at the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open earlier this year.

  • Columbia leads the all-time series with Binghamton 6-5. They defeated BU 24-15 the last time out in 2020, but the Bearcats had won the previous three meetings.

A look at Navy

  • Navy has two matches Saturday, but enters the weekend at 3-2. The Midshipmen have won three straight (over Hofstra, Ohio and Cleveland State). The team's two losses have come against No. 17 Lehigh and Maryland.

  • Featuring a deep lineup, Navy has four ranked wrestlers. No. 20 Andrew Cerniglia leads the way with a 19-5 record. Meanwhile No. 21 Josh Koderhandt picked up four wins at the Cliff Keen Invitational. No. 29 David Key and No. 27 Jacob Koser wrestle back-to-back, to help round out Navy's upper weights.

  • 125-pounder Jacon Allen has also seen the rankings this season and is 15-8 thus far. He had a first place performance at the Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open.

  • Sammy Starr, Cael Crebs and Grady Greiss have over .500 records this season. All three have strong competition in Val Park (18-11), Shane Finney (14-10) and Riley Smith (15-8) at their respective weight classes.

  • This will be the first matchup between the two sides, although Navy and BU wrestled at the Bearcat Open in November.
