Women’s lacrosse travels to Colgate Wednesday

Bearcats to play second road game before Saturday’s home opener

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's lacrosse will make the short trip to Colgate Wednesday afternoon for a 5 p.m. game at Andy Kerr Stadium. The Bearcats opened the season at Syracuse, falling 23-6 to the 2021 NCAA runner-ups, and will play its second road game in four days.

Notes

  • Despite falling to the Orange, BU had several bright spots, including having three of its six goals scored by freshmen. Olivia Muscolino got the Bearcats on the board with a finish from long distance in the first quarter and Abigail Carroll scored two goals of her own to co-lead Binghamton.

  • Madison Murphy joined Carroll with a two-goal performance, as she notched both of hers in the second half. Emily Masera (two assists) and Jesse Barer (one goal, one assist) each had two-point performances and Kenna Newman also had an assist.

  • Kelly Quinn put together a solid game defensively, causing two turnovers and picking up four ground balls. Cassidy Evans had a caused turnover and three ground balls.

  • In goal, Emily Manning made some key early saves despite Syracuse coming on strong later on in the game. Sofia Salgado closed out the contest, getting her first minutes as a Bearcat.

Scouting Colgate

  • The Raiders dropped their season opener by a score of 17-8 to America East member Vermont. The Catamounts were able to score 10 of 13 second half goals to grab the comeback win. Colgate led 3-2 after the first quarter before giving up five straight goals to fall behind for good.

  • Three players made up Colgate's eight goals, including hat tricks by Cara O'Reilly and Eliza Farriss. Sarah Harding added two goals and Devon Maillet notched two assists.

  • O'Reilly is an all-around player for the Raiders. She had six draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers against Vermont. Last season as a sophomore, she finished third on the team with 25 total points.

  • Amelia Cunningham is now in her second season in goal. She made 93 saves in 2021, and had 11 last weekend.

Series History

  • Colgate owns the all-time series lead 8-5, but Binghamton has won three of the last four contests between the two sides. BU defeated the Raiders 12-8 on March 11, 2020 in the team's final contest of the COVID-19 shortened season.

Up Next

  • Binghamton will return to Vestal for its home opener against Bucknell Saturday. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
