Women’s lacrosse to host Marist Saturday

Bearcats coming off an 18-8 victory over Lafayette

VESTAL, N.Y. – After an impressive win against Lafayette, Binghamton women's lacrosse looks to add another home victory Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.  The Bearcats (2-3) will play against Marist (1-2) beginning at 1 p.m.

Notes

  • The Bearcats put together their strongest offensive performance to date Wednesday, defeating Lafayette 18-8. Olivia Muscolino led the way with five goals. Madison Murphy and Hayley Weltner added four and three goals respectively.

  • Senior draw specialist Sofia Afkham recorded a program record 11 draw controls against the Leopards. She has 26 on the season.

  • Murphy now leads BU with 12 goals on the season. Freshmen Abigail Carroll and Muscolino each have eight goals. Jesse Barer is tied for first on the team (with Murphy) in points with 12 (five goals, seven assists).

  • Kelly Quinn and Cassidy Evans have been a force defensively. Quinn leads Binghamton with seven caused turnovers and Evans leads all field players with 10 ground balls.
     

About the Red Foxes

  • Marist enters play Saturday at 1-2 on the season. 

  • The Red Foxes are coming off a 14-6 victory over LIU on Mar. 2nd. They have losses to Army and UMass Lowell.

  • Kerri Gutenberger has been stellar for the visitors, as she has 14 goals and five assists. She had seven goals, an assist and eight draw controls in the win over LIU. Bella D'Gracia has done it all in three games, grabbing six ground balls, causing four turnovers and adding five draw controls.

  • Marist and LIU played a tight game in the first half with the Red Foxes leading 6-4 at the half. The Red Foxes then had an offensive surge, outsourcing the Sharks 8-2 in the second half.

Series History

  • Marist holds an 13-1 lead in the all-time series, and are 6-0 all-time when playing the Bearcats in Vestal.

  • Binghamton finishes its homestand when they face Canisius Wednesday. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
