Bearcats and Stony Brook open three-game set Friday afternoon

VESTAL, N.Y. - Winners of four of its last six, Binghamton baseball (8-19, 4-8 America East) heads downstate for a three-game weekend set at Stony Brook (14-16, 9-3 AE). The teams will square off at 3 p.m. Friday before finishing the series with afternoon contests on Saturday and Sunday at Joe Nathan Stadium.

Binghamton is coming off a 5-3 non-conference win over Cornell on Tuesday. Freshmen Evin Sullivan and Nick Roselli combined to drive in all five BU runs, thanks in part to back-to-back home runs. The Bearcats turned three timely double plays and then withstood a late Cornell rally.

Meanwhile, seven Bearcat pitchers limited the Big Red to seven hits. Binghamton's final pitcher was junior closer Jack Collins, who entered with the bases loaded and the tying run on first in the eighth inning. Collins got a double play and strikeout to squelch the threat. He then fanned two more in the ninth to notch his third save of the season.

Junior left fielder Cavan Tully leads BU and ranks 12th in the AE with a .333 average. Tully is fifth in the league with a .458 on-base percentage. Sullivan has a .326 average with 15 RBI. Junior first baseman Connor Aoki leads the team with five home runs and 17 RBI. Binghamton is hitting .250 as a team (7th in AE) and has a 6.45 ERA (6th). The Bearcats rank sixth in fielding (.960).

The Seawolves, completing their final season in the America East, sit in first place in Division "B" but won't be eligible for postseason. They opened conference play by sweeping three from UMass Lowell. Since they have won series' against Maine, Hartford and Albany. They rank fifth in the conference in hitting (.262) and second in both pitching (6.01) and fielding (.975).
