BU hosts UMBC for three games; Friday night 6 p.m. game is Grand Opening of new stadium complex

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball will look to continue its hot streak when the Bearcats (13-21, 9-9 America East) host UMBC (17-22, 7-11 AE) in a weekend series at the Bearcats Baseball Stadium. The teams will plat at 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at the new stadium. Friday's game is the "Grand Opening" of the spectacular $60 million facility, which also features an expansive team clubhouse building.

Binghamton has won eight of its last 10 conference games to pull within a game of the top playoff position in the division.

Last weekend, BU swept a key road series from division-leading NJIT. The Bearcats have won three straight conference series'. The team ranks second in the America East in pitching (6.03 ERA), fifth in fielding (.965) and seventh in hitting (.256). Three of the team's top five hitters are freshmen.

Junior left fielder Cavan Tully continues to lead the Bearcats in hitting (.314) and on-base percentage (.421). Freshman catcher/DH Evin Sullivan is hitting .305 with 13 extra-base hits and a team-high 22 RBI. Junior first baseman Connor Aoki has a team-high eight home runs and 22 RBI. Junior closer Jack Collins has six saves and a team-leading 2.22 ERA. Sophomore reliever Justin Rosner has two wins and a 3.74 ERA in 12 appearances.

UMBC has dropped nine of its last 12 league games after opening up 4-2. The Retrievers lost two of three last weekend against Stony Brook. But the Retrievers are coming off a 12-3 win over Towson Wednesday night.

The team ranks fourth in the AE in hitting (.282), pitching (6.25 ERA) and fielding (.965). UMBC boasts the top two hitters in the AE in senior second baseman Myles Nicholson (.423) and freshman pitcher/DH Jayden Shertel (.365).

Binghamton leads the all-time series 52-22. The teams split eight games last season, going 2-2 in both Vestal and Baltimore. At home, BU leads 23-11 head-to-head.
