Teams are tied for top playoff spot in division, will play DH Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (15-23, 11-10 America East) continues its 11-game homestand with a key matchup against visiting NJIT (19-20, 11-10 AE) this weekend. After weather washed out Friday's game, the teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. and then finish with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m. at the new Bearcats Baseball Stadium.

With nine conference games remaining in the regular season, this series is an important one between the two teams currently tied for the top playoff spot in Division "B." The Bearcats have won seven of their last eight America East games, including a three-game sweep of the Highlanders two weekends ago in Union, N.J.

Senior shortstop Jake Evans is hitting .462 during an 11-game hit streak and has raised his season average 106 points. He is batting a team-best .472 in conference play. Freshman DH/C Evin Sullivan (.324) has 16 multi-hit games and has the most RBI (26) of any freshman in the league. Freshman CF Logan Haskell is hitting .321 over the last two months. Junior left fielder Cavan Tully ranks eighth in the conference in on-base percentage (.430).

The Highlanders have lost three of their last four series' (to Maine, Stony Brook and BU) but are coming off a 13-inning, 7-3 win over Fordham on Tuesday afternoon.

NJIT leads the conference in pitching (5.71 ERA), led by ace Ryan Fischer (7-2, 3.76), who will go in Game 1 this weekend. Senior shortstop David Marcano leads the team in hitting (.348). Senior catcher Paul Franzoni has team-highs of nine home runs and 32 RBI. NJIT has a balanced lineup with seven players sitting on 20 or more RBI.

After the three-game sweep at NJIT, Binghamton now leads the all-time series 22-6, though most of those wins came before NJIT joined the Aemrica East. The teams split eight games last season.
