Reigning champion Bearcats will welcome field of six to new stadium complex May 24-27

VESTAL, N.Y. – The America East Baseball Championship is returning to Binghamton for the fourth time overall and second in the last four years. The conference announced on Thursday that Binghamton will host the 2023 championship on May 24-27 at BU's new stadium complex.

With its ample spectator seating (1,900+ chairback seats) and media/VIP availability, Binghamton was an obvious choice. The new $60 million stadium complex opened last March to rave reviews. The team drew 1,138 fans for the unofficial opener on March 18 and then drew a record 1,906 fans for the official grand opening on April 29.

"We are pleased the America East leadership continues to entrust Binghamton to host conference championships on our beautiful campus," Interim Director of Athletics Dennis Kalina said. "We are excited to showcase our new $60 million baseball complex and are equally excited for our team to make a run at another conference title."

The Bearcats captured the 2022 America East title with three resounding wins up in Orono, Maine. They went 3-0 and outscored opponents 35-11 to reach the NCAA Regionals for the fifth time in program history – fourth time in the last nine years. Longtime head coach Tim Sinicki will enter his 31st season in 2023 and returns seven starters, three all-conference and three all-rookie selections from his championship team, which capped its spring at the NCAA Stanford Regional last June.

The 2023 America East Championship will introduce a new format, with the first two games (#3 seed vs. #6 seed and #4 seed vs. #5 seed) being single-elimination games on the tournament's first day. The top two seeds receive a bye into the double-elimination, four-team bracket over the event's final three days.

Binghamton has previously hosted the tournament in 2009 (in Endicott), 2010 and 2019. The Bearcats won the 2009 title as host and finished runnerup in 2019.
