America East Baseball Championship returning to Binghamton

Bearcats will host six-team tournament for second straight year this spring, fifth time overall

VESTAL, N.Y. – The America East Baseball Championship is returning to Binghamton for the second straight spring and fifth time overall, the conference announced Wednesday. Binghamton will host the 2024 championship on May 22-25 at BU's expansive stadium complex. The conference also announced that Binghamton will host the 2025 Softball Championship at its upgraded complex.

Last spring, BU hosted eight games over four days in a baseball tournament that ended with top-seeded Maine defeating the third-seeded and reigning champion Bearcats to claim the conference title.

With its ample spectator seating (1,900+ chairback seats) and media/VIP availability, Binghamton remains a natural choice. The $60 million stadium complex opened in March 2022. Last May, more than 1,000 fans attended each of the last two days of the championship.

"We welcome the opportunity to showcase our first-class baseball facility for a second-straight year and appreciate the trust the America East has in our ability to host such a large-scale event," Director of Athletics Eugene Marshall, Jr. said. "I know our staff is up for the challenge and I also expect our team will once again be in the hunt for another championship."

The Bearcats have reached the championship round three times in the last five years and captured the 2022 America East title with three resounding wins up in Orono, Maine. That title marked the fifth time in program history – and fourth time in the last decade – that BU has advanced to the NCAA Regionals.

Longtime head coach Tim Sinicki will enter his 32nd season in 2024 and returns seven position starters, six pitchers, both all-conference selections and 18 lettermen from his runnerup team.

The 2024 America East Championship will again feature a single-elimination opening day format. The first two games of the tournament (#3 seed vs. #6 seed and #4 seed vs. #5 seed) will be "survive-and-advance" battles. The top two seeds will receive a bye into the double-elimination, four-team bracket over the event's final three days.

Binghamton has previously hosted the tournament in 2009, 2010, 2019 and 2022. The Bearcats won the 2009 title and finished runnerup in 2019 and 2023. Binghamton's five team titles have come in 2009, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2022.
